Hi! I’m Vanessa. The founder and creator of Crab Apple Books & More. I am a wife to an Army aviator, a mom to four kiddos, a part-time data analyst, and an author.
Life. Is. Busy.
And so I did the logical thing. I published my first novel and then expanded the business to create mugs. Because, in the words of my husband, why not?
I’m not a minimalist in real life (as can be seen by how much stuff we have accumulated over the years), but I do love simplicity. I strive for a feeling of casual imperfection in my designs. Is that a thing? I think so. I put a lot of thought and effort into what I create here, but I never want to take it–or myself–too seriously. You’ll find snark and wit (I hope?) and a bit of attitude in most items in the shop; but under it all is a love of reading, writing, coffee, and my neighbor.
What Do We Do?
Crab Apple Books started as a publishing imprint for my books. My debut novel, Soldier On, released in October 2018. Yes, I plan to write more. I have sequels to that novel in the works or planned, as well as a YA pirate fantasy series in the draft stage.
But you won’t see the books sold here. When available, signed copies of my books can be purchased from my author site: vanessarasanen.com. Paperbacks and ebooks are available at most major book retailers.
But… Why Crab Apple?
An apple a day keeps the doctor away, but apples don’t grow on their own.
Apple trees need a bit of help to set their fruit. They need a pollinator, and crab apple trees are one of the best at serving their apple tree brethren.
Crab apples are so effective at pollinating other apple varieties that old time orchardists would take branches of crab apples in bloom and put them in a bucket of water in the middle of their apple orchards.
Similarly, people rely on one another. Perhaps not in quite the same fashion as apple trees, but we lift up, support, encourage, and strengthen one another through all of life’s up and downs.
Crab Apple Books & More stands by this belief that we should lift up and support one another in this life — even if only with a novel or a snarky mug.
